I have come to the appreciation of the “preview” button goodreads sometimes offers on books. It’s not all of them so I’m guessing it’s by choice or the author.
I decided to hop on the laptop and give a browse.
The Obsidian Throne: Book one of the midnight kingdom by Lavender Ocean.
The synopsis was interesting already mentioning Greek mythology and then the credits mentioned the P.O box for the Author was in SLC, UT which is my state. So I’m totally vamped and putting some hype into a book I know next to nothing about.
I’m not sure if these are short stories by music artists or other artists really. Or if they title of the chapter is inspired by a song…I have no idea what’s going on right now, but I do know the Hades like figure in this first chapter..is rough to like. “Don’t mind my wife, shes practically a teenager. We married when she was incredibly young. I like to keep things spicy “.
Um…ew. I kinda threw up in my mouth a little.
The attitude of the main character is not likeable to me.
I just dont think I’m going t be able to enjoy this book. I’m glad it’s just a preview and not a purchase. I’d be upset.
I’ve been super struggling with reading lately. I don’t re-read books, I don’t read classics. I’ve tried to read a chapter or two of books in and out of my comfort zone. Of most any genre. And frankly I have tried all formats available to me.
It’s kinda frustrating and discouraging but hopefully it doesn’t last. Especially being stuck in the house.
I did not finish a single book in February or March.. but I’ve decided to start late on the O.W.L.S Readathon hoping it helps to get me out of this funk.
My career I picked is Astronomer so I need 3 classes. Arithamcy, history of magic, and astronomy. A book that’s not my favorite genre, a book with witches, and read mostly at night. So far I have picked a book that I think might have a witch that’s not specifically called a witch, and I have read it mostly at night.. I’m about 20% and that’s actually the most I have read in so long.
Here is to hoping it works and I can get back to reading.
This asian inspired historical fiction/ fantasy is really good. It is based on the second sino- Japanese war in the late 1930s to mid 1940s.
I have heard good and bad reviews about this book and for me I can see where those who don’t like it are coming from, but I give this a 4 stars and hoping to enjoy the second one just as much if not more.
This is book four in the Red Queen Series and I have really enjoyed the series up til this book. I just dont feel like much happened in it for as long as it was. It really could have been condensed down.
Being as it is book four I can’t really give any thoughts because if spoilers but if you have read this and want to discuss it then let me know.
I’m giving this book a 3/5 stars. It had a lot more potential but it was lacking something for me.
